Rare Biedermeier walnut side table with swans - Germany circa 1820

Rare Biedermeier walnut side table with swans - Germany circa 1820
A rare Biedermeier sewing table from around 1820, crafted in high-quality walnut veneer. The round top features an impressive, symmetrically applied image with ten-fold mirrored veneer.
The central base consists of three elegantly and solidly carved swan necks, their eyes accentuated by the use of bone – a typical stylistic feature of high-quality South German or Austrian Biedermeier furniture. The splayed legs provide stability and give the table a light, sculptural appearance. A small, ebonized wooden basket is incorporated into the lower part of the base.
The original drawer, complete with lock and key, is divided internally into smaller drawers and secret compartments. These are ideal for storing small items or – in a historical context – sewing supplies. The piece of furniture has been professionally restored and is in very good condition. As part of the restoration, one of the small drawers inside the large drawer was reconstructed and replaced.
