Biedermeier column chest of drawers, walnut, circa 1820/25

Biedermeier column chest of drawers, walnut, circa 1820/25
Biedermeier chest of drawers with four drawers and an architectural structure. The carcass is veneered in walnut and features a continuous, four-way mirrored veneer pattern: the grain continues across all drawer fronts as a cohesive image. The top panel is also joined with a four-way mirrored pattern.
The front is flanked by two freestanding columns with gilded capitals and bases. The column shafts are ebonized; the gilding has been renewed with 22-carat gold leaf. The columns stand on block-like plinths.
Above the three lower drawers is a narrow, protruding drawer under the top panel. All drawers have oval brass pull handles; the key escutcheons are inlaid in ebonized shield shapes. The locks are original, and four keys are present. The key heads will be exchanged upon customer request.
The chest of drawers has been restored and finished with shellac; it is ready for living. Due to restoration, individual small veneer areas have been supplemented. A very slight, age-related deformation is visible on the top panel.
